14 days, 5 flights, 4 cities and I’ve just arrived in LA.. with a killer cold. My new personal-trainer roomie, Geno quickly points me toward Lassens Natural Foods for a box of Counter Attack. He also recommends the Green Smoothie recipe from The Naked Foods Cookbook by M. Floyd and J. Barry. He’s just finished a twice-per-day 14-day run of the neon green stuff and looks/feels as healthy as an Okinawan. I’ve been looking for a good detox, so now seems like as good of time as any to start. When in California..
Makes 2 servings
1 head romaine lettuce, stem chopped off
1/2 cup peeled, coarsely chopped cucumber
1 to 2 cups coconut water (depending on desired thickness)
1/2 packed cup fresh parsley
Juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup cashews, presoaked overnight (or 2 TBS raw unsweetened cashew butter)
Combine all ingredients in blender, blend until smooth. Drink immediately for highest nutritional content.
Now, I’ve jazzed mine up a bit by adding a handful of spinach and kale and substituting 1 cup of coconut water for aloe juice with an extra squeeze of lime.
Additionally, I’ve sworn off alcohol, dairy, gluten and sugar for 14 days. I’ll continue to eat my normal sources of protein (chicken, fish, eggs, beans, nuts, etc.) and workout as usual. I’ll report back with updates as things progress.
